Retirement Plan Beneficiary Designation
Donating part or all of your unused retirement assets avoids taxation and allows VYFS to benefit from the full value of your gift.
IRA Distributions
An IRA rollover allows people age 70.5 and older to reduce their taxable income by making a gift directly from an IRA.
Donor Advised Funds (DAF)
A DAF allows you to distribute gifts to numerous charities. Gifts can be given during your lifetime, or after you pass away.
Life Insurance
If you have a life insurance policy that has outlasted its original purpose, converting it to a charitable gift is an excellent way to make a lasting impact.
Stocks and Mutual Funds
With a charitable gift of appreciated securities held long-term, the donation you make and the deduction you get are greater than they would be if you were to sell the shares and donate the cash proceeds. Stocks can have a meaningful impact towards the long-term financial health of VYFS.
Bequests
A bequest ensures that your generosity will benefit the causes you care about, even after your lifetime. Bequests can be a specific amount, a percentage of your estate or residue after other bequests are distributed. An estate planning attorney can draft language to ensure your intentions are clear and legally stated.
ACH Drafts
Also known as Electronic Funds Transfer, allow you to make donations via bank transfer directly from your checking account rather than using credit/debit cards. This option maximizes your donation to support our mission as there are no bank fees.

Behavioral Health – Counseling, Substance Use Treatment, Crisis Response
VYFS Counselors have responded to unprecedented growth in the number of Islanders seeking counseling, especially concerned with the growth of youth and young adults seeking care and the sharp increase in the need for Substance Use Treatment.
Donations from Vashon residents are invested to subsidize the cost of counseling and care for struggling Islanders.
Vashon Kids – Enriching Child-Care
Vashon kids supports working families by educating 1 in 4 elementary age children on Vashon. VK provides social-emotional development and positive play with a wide range of programs and activities. Vashon Kids’ staff fights on the front-line of poverty, supporting Island families and keeping kids safe and engaged. VYFS has invested heavily in Child-care subsidies (scholarships) for Vashon Families, a crucial investment that stabilizes and strengthens entire families.
Oasis Community Navigators – Resources for Islanders in Need
Oasis is VYFS’s social service and resource connections program. Community Navigators’ help struggling Island families and individuals gain access to critical services and supports from numerous local, county, state and federal agencies. Two bi-lingual Oasis Community Resource Navigators advocate and work for Islanders and their families by accessing a range of resources, medical & ferry vouchers and social services provided by VYFS and numerous local, county, state and federal agencies. Over 3000 medical and travel vouchers are provided to Islanders every year.
Family Place – Supporting and Empowering Vashon Families
Family Place is a multi-faceted initiative that supports and strengthens Vashon families. From Parents as Teachers to the Vashon Early Learning Coalition, Family Place nurtures and cares for families and has a substantial impact on their health, development and happiness. Family Place staff invests over 8500 hours every year to strengthen and empower families of all backgrounds.
VYFS spends less than 10% of all revenues on Administrative expenses, far below the 25% industry standard for efficiency. This means that more than $.90 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to pay for VYFS’s front-line programs. Please donate today.
