And the results are in!
Alas, the people of Vashon have spoken, and they have selected Bernie and Hillary as the unofficial mayor. Congratulations to you and the Senior Center. Job well done!
Thank to to all who voted for Noodle. We raised more than $3200 to support the programs of VYFS.
Many warm thank you to the Yarkin family, Noodle himself, Adelie the lamb, and VYFS board member extraordinaire, Rhoda Karusaitus for sharing the magic and good humor of these campaign days. Also thanks to all of the VYFS board,Laura Rollins and all of our remarkable staff.
Noodle for Mayor
It's a tradition of longstanding around here to elect an unofficial Island Mayor. The volunteer candidates literally ask you to buy your own votes by donating to an Island charity of their choice. One dollar = one vote.
The votes are counted on the Saturday night of Strawberry Festival. And, the winner gets to ride in a vintage convertible during the classic car parade on the Sunday of Strawberry Festival.
This summer, Vashon Youth & Family Services is pleased to have won the support of Noodle the Sheep, the first candidate to announce for Unofficial Mayor in 2016, and the only one who grows his own sweaters.
Noodle is a born and bred local, an old islander from multi-generational stock, who has overcome a difficult childhood with the help of a strong community. As a cherished member of the Yarkin family and resident of Sun Island Farm home, Noodle is a familiar figure in the Gold Beach neighborhood.
As part of his Mayoral Campaign, Noodle will be making special appearances at the Vashon Farmers Market, the Sheepdog Classic and other Island events. As Unofficial Mayor, Noodle is excited about riding in a vintage car in the Strawberry Festival Parade, and looks forward to chewing through ribbons for new business grand openings!
Noodle firmly believes that all islanders thrive when they support each other and he throws his support behind VYFS. Funds raised by Noodles’ Unofficial Mayoral Campaign will be used by Vashon Youth and Family Services to fund critical island social services: Free Crisis Intervention, Emergency Financial Assistance, Mental Health Counseling, Childcare Scholarships and Parent Education.
