VYFS Executive Director Resigns

After nearly five years, Kathleen Johnson is resigning as Executive Director of Vashon Youth & Family Services, effective Nov. 2nd. The decision was a difficult one and made she says,  in large part, to improve her work-family balance.

During her time with VYFS, Kathleen was a familiar face at King County meetings and has been a fearless advocate for all Vashon social service providers, insisting that Vashon and other rural designated areas should receive their fair share of county funding.  Under Kathleen's leadership, VYFS made great strides in accountability, and for the past two years has received spotless financial and program audits.  She focused on increasing the level of professionalism across all agency programs, and most recently has started an initiative to further eliminate  barriers to service by offering Spanish language services.  .

Kathleen has accepted a new position with Historic South Downtown, a state funded agency responsible for preserving and restoring Seattle's Pioneer Square and Chinatown International District neighborhoods.

The role of interim Executive Director will be filled by Carol Goertzel, a member of the VYFS Board who is stepping down from the Board to fill the position while the search for the new Executive Director takes place.  Carol has served on the VYFS Board for the past year and a half, and has over 35 years of experience leading non-profit agencies.

The VYFS Board are in the process of recruiting for the open Executive Director position, and will be asking for input from VYFS employees and the community as they fine tune the job requirements and conduct interviews.
